Colorado trip suggestions
Posted: 16 Jan 12 4:39 AM
My wife and I are looking at taking a trip to Colorado later in the summer and I am looking for a one or two day hike where we could possibly access our starting point fairly easy and hike into a town where we could spend a night or two and rent a car or take a shuttle back to where we started. I was hoping to hike in somewhere where we could spend a few days and enjoy the local amenities. I am unfamiliar with any Colorado hikes or trails and she is a beginner hiker (Myself have spent many a nights in the wilderness). We are planning on doing some overnighters here locally in southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas around the Buffalo River so I can get her ready for the trip. I would hope for something moderate. Any suggestions would help.
Thanks Eric

Check out a site that we partner with, Backpacker.com. Colorado is pretty big and here is the first of 16 pages of search results:

http://www.backpacker.com/destinations/category/all/142

If you create a Backpacker.com user account, it can be linked to your TrimbleOutdoors.com account (just use the same email address and it will link automatically). They have a specific "Rocky Mountains" forum that you might get more responses from if you post there:

You can also contact meetup.com Pick an area in Colorado for your start point (Vail, Breckenridge, C Springs, Telluride, etc) and read those local area posts on meetup. Colorado meetups do a lot of over nights. I'm from Pittsburgh and have joined meetup groups all over the country. Last year I bought a place in Colorado and used the meetup for hiking and getting to know the area and also the people. If they are not doing an over night during your period, someone on meetup can recommend one or someone else to contact.

Also try your start towns visitor center. Colorado's VC are some of the best prepared and most knowledgeable in the country. They probably would be happy to mail you out information.

I know of a trail that goes from Frisco Co to Vail. It's paved and a day hike. Contact Frisco VC. Other then this, I'm not sure how many beginner hikes in CO you will find. It is the Rockies.

Enjoy the great outdoors!
