Strangest Use

What odd or unique activity have you used one of the Trimble Outdoors applications for other than their intended use?

I used the map editor software to draw our cruise trip route. I was kicking myself for not remembering to record a GPS tracklog on the trip, but at least I was able to map it out later!

I have downloaded trimble to my blackberry to see how accurate my jet ski's odometer is. I have allready tested it in my car and it seems to be very accurate.

there are some pretty cool ways that people are using the apps.
Here's one of my favorites: use Allsport GPS to go skiing, hit pause on the chairlifts. try viewing it over a satellite map for full effect!

I use Trimble Outdoors to locate where I park my car after Cardinal games.

I used AllSport GPS Platinum to test my car's odometer accuracy!

(amazing how many calories you burn when you're "running" at 65 mph... )

I do the same, testing speedometer. I find my speedometer is 3 mph slower than gps. All of my vehicles were this way?! Maybe this is similar to your gas gauge, when empty, you are not really empty for yahoos like me who like to do the Kramer test (Sienfeld) on how far you can go after miles remaining is 0!

I use it to map and locate ghost towns and areas that may be useful for locating areas that make it easier for finding historical relics.

I used it to find out how far I walk when I mow my lawn (it's a 1/4 mile). I'm going to make it a shared trip and challenge someone to do it quicker. Anyone that can beat my time will win $5.

I have used to "measure" how far it is to mow my yard too. I never thought about making it a contest/challenge. Each April, I will post a time to beat and then once a week I will allow one person to challenge the time. Contest ends in October.

Now you have me wondering how far it is when I weed eat.

I use it when I'm training my search dog. I have the runner upload their trail when they are in place. Then I'll put my phone on my dogs when we start. When we are finished I'll have the trail from my runner, and one from my dog. I can then compair the two and see if she was on trail. If she was off look at the area and see if I can figure out why.

I have two LG rumors. I give one to the runner and I attach the second on to my dog.

I use mine on my Blackberry Storm to keep track of my horseback rides. I love the maps and all of the details. Even up in the mountains I don't lose signal and it is very accurate with my friend who is running a Garmin.

I had a friend ask me to help him do a rough-cut survey of his and neighbors land. He is buying 10 acres of his neighbor's 50 acres, and they want to determine where to cut it out. I came to the forums to see if any tips.

rgeer: did you ever figure out your needs?

If you have the dimensions, you could use the web editor to map it out, and then download it to your phone.

Yes, it worked out great. We were able to find all the survey pins, even though some of this property is very steep and wooded.

I did similar to what you described and downloaded to phone. It was easy to follow the track and see when getting off course. Even better, many times there were obstacles. We could simply circle around them and get back on course on other side.

It was a very helpful tool.

Wow! This could add a whole new dimension to the phrase "shop 'til you drop' for those with GPS units that will perform indoors!
