A alternative use of Trimble Outdoors for Verizon users
Posted: 07 Nov 09 6:15 PM
I am a big fan of Trible Outdoors and loved using it on my Blackberry Curve under AT&T. I even bought the full year plan. Then AT&T shut down a tower near my house and I lost any reception at home from them so I had to switch to Verizon. I got the Blackberry Tour from Verizon but was pretty disipointed when I learned that I could not use the Allsport GPS program with it. I placed a call to support a couple of months ago and they assured me that the programmers where working on it. Well nothings out yet and since then the Iphone version and the Android version have both been launched. I got to say I am feeling a little left out.
The other day I came across a message on a online messaging board posted by another Verizon user and he recommended the program called GPSed. I have been using it ever since. I still think that Allsport GPS is a much better fitness product but its the only thing we have. The really neat thing is that you can import your tracks from GPSed to your Trimble online account. Using the import/export options on both sites. So if your a Verizon user like me and still want to use Trimble's website then GPSed is your best alternative until Trimble Starts supporting more Verizon Blackberrys.

You might also try out everytrail.com. Their app is also free and I use both trimble apps and everytrail and they are very similar both works well. And there is only one flaw in your remarks, Trimble doesn't exclude phones, the provider does that. Verizon users ought to demand that verizon opens up the API for the GPS and allow more flexibility in that regard. AT&T supports Trimble Outdoors on many phones but the one I have and yet I have it downloaded and working just fine so why would they not support it? I would pay them for it on my cell bill if they allowed me too.

AllSport GPS is now available on BlackBerry Tour on Verizon. It can be purchased through the BlackBerry AppWorld. Some of our users reported that the app was working very well on their Tour phones, but some reported problems with getting the GPS signal. We are investigating this, but you can try the software using the AppWorld's trial feature. Do let us know what you find. Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

I can't find the Allsport in Appworld. Maybe I just have to wait until tomorrow but I can't wait much longer. :-)
