Can't pound the pavement anymore bad knees but started riding my roadbike. Any suggestions for exercises for getting stronger and avoiding injuries?

Thats 2 of us. I was registered for the Marine Corps Marathon in October and had to bail on it because of the knee. Have a torn meniscus that will not calm down and it's been 1 full month since I have ran any distance, not even to the mailbox.
I too have taken to cycling and bought a new bike (Cannondale CAAD 9-6)just last weekend. I have already put 130 miles on it. I also am looking for some cycling advice.

I recommend the book called "Bike for Life" by Roy M. Wallack and Bill Katovsky, Marlowe and Company, New York, ISBN-13: 978-1-56924-451-7. They go into everything cycling (back, knees, even fertitlity issues) and give exercises for each, what to eat, etc. Chances are your library might be able to get it for you. I got mine from Barnes & Noble, as I recall.
