sometimes that works, but often it seems to make it even slower. I've had times it fires right up, and others when I start it before taking the bike outside and it still takes some time after I get outside (not to mention the times it 'hangs' on the verifying message screen.

(then again, you keep saying a new version should be out real soon for my phone (pantech link) so it might not be a problem after that.)

(and maybe that will clear up the near useless map downloading feature, it almost always hangs and then when I hit the button saying I know it failed to d/l the maps it just goes back to not showing any map. Please give allsport cached map abilities. Downloading the tile with my house every time I start a ride is a real challenge.)

I have the Moto Droid 1 Verizon. I have been working with the T-Outdoors but love the Allsport GPS function for training. I won't be getting rid of my phone any time soon because of this.

My interests are three: Bike; MTB Bike; Run.

1) I would love to see an integration of the Outdoors/Allsport and my music playlists along with a "random" shuffle. Again, if an menu option to auto-start or icon on the main screen be developed...

2) I would love to see the three main icons I have listed above on the main screen. I realize there are other sports but I am going solely based on selfish reasons. However, this site is a "data mine" of information and could easily show the top three sports.

3) I would finally love to see "training" programs for runs and rides. Train for a marathon, track the distance, reach the weekly goals, etc. Train for a Century or more on the bike. I can find many for this but sometimes I just want to turn off my brain and go.

Thank you to the Trimble Folks! My rides and runs are mo' betta since I found ya!! I have moved off another GPS service to this one and am happy for the experience.

I forgot to add...

4) I would like to see a voice integration to "yell" out distance, pace, time or all three and maybe options in the future of elevation, grade, direction. (choice of female or male?)

I don't really look at my Trimble GPS when I am moving because the screen is locked to preserve batteries. I also don't do too much with it because I am pre-occupied with the adventure to open the screen.

Thank you again!

Hi there,

Been using this app since Aug 2009, and love everything about it, except for the backlight controls for Iphone. I also have my phone mounted on the handlebar, and dread having to continously turn the screen back on. I see the lock button at the top right of the screen, but it does not appear to do anything on my phone. Another app that I tried (EZ Bike) has a screen lock feature that keeps the screen on indefinitely. All my data for the last year is in All Sports, and I don't want to change to something new now, but this screen going black thing could be a deal breaker for me.

AllSports version 1.5.2

Iphone O/S 4.1

Am I doing somehting wrong, or is this a known issue?

********

NVM! My genius wife was quick to point out that all I needed to do was set the "auto-lock" in the Settings - General on the Iphone to "never" and the screen stays on all the time.

Auto LAP and reverse route features
Posted: 27 Nov 10 2:13 PM
Hi, It'd be awesome if the application can have an auto LAP feature. I usually run around a park and do several rounds. If the app had an auto lap feature, it'd detect when I complete a round (using GPS coordenates) and it'd mark a lap automatically.

Reverse route would be when you go to a foreign city and start running/walking/biking. You may find yourself lost, so you could use the reverse route (or take me home or any other name that you like) to make the application tell you, at least with an arrow using the digital compass, your way to the starting point.

Thanks very much!

Chris, there is basic lap functionality. Under "Programs" you'll find km/mile splits and a couple others.

I'm afraid trying to do an auto lap based solely on the GPS position is a bit difficult and inaccurate. I don't think there are any other products that do this. They are all based on time and/or distance.

Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate the interest. We'll try and keep you up to date on any development.

Thanks for the quick response!

I pointed this out because I used to have a Garmin Forerunner watch with GPS and it had this feature. If you set the autolap feature on, when the GPS detects you passed the starting point it computes a lap automatically.

It's not a must have feature, but it's certainly useful when you have it. I normally have my iPhone located in an armband and it's not handy to unlock the screen and press the lap button while running or biking.

Like I said, it's not a must have.

Thanks again!

Auto lap functionality would be cool. I don't see why this would be particularly hard to implement. You would start a new lap if you were within X distance of the starting point (or last manually selected lap start) and also had traveled at least Y distance.

Since this is a great biking program how about the ability to track/monitor cadence and Heart Rate via ANT capability? I think that would really AllSport the best program out there.

i'll second that request to have better contrast and read the stats on the fly - current color scheme has very poor contrast. Can it be improved? customized?
Great product otherwise.
I never ride without it.

I have been using allsport gps since November of 09. Great app and helped me train for the LA Marathon. I am using it again to train for the 2011 marathon. A few features which have probably been mentioned that I would love:

Mile split/markers on the map.

A way to mark your trips so that you can keep track of mileage on the shoes you use. That way if you are using 2 or 3 different pairs of shoes it would be nice to be able to split your trips by what shoes you used. Kind of crazy I know but it helps when you do a lot of running.

THanks!

I am really tired of using Endomondo just to keep an exercise log of my racquetball.
I really could use:

"4. Stationary Workouts - RickSTL
For those of us who use AllSport to also track our stationary workouts,
could you please add a calories prompt in the advanced features while
manually updating via the website."

The web would work just fine, there is no need to make the app any bigger. This has been the biggest reason that I have not converted totally to Allsport.

The size and ability to move the android app to the SD card is a concern too, but I love the program so much that getting rid of all my fun stuff is worth worth it. From what I understand, keeping the app on the phone increases quality and I can't gripe about my phone not being powerful enough.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Paul

And is entering calories the most important part to you? or is it more about time spent playing?

I play all the time but I don't really have any idea how many calories I burn. But time is also not really perfect since sometimes I can just hang out in the middle of the court and hardly move, but sometimes it's like I'm running drills the whole game... it all seems to depend on my opponent :-)

I use a watch for my times. I also do a little boxing and swimming, so just being able to put the calorie burn into the web portal would be fine. I like being able to look at the calendar and seeing what I did for the week or month to stay motivated.

Accuracy, as far as moving a lot in the court or not, is not that important to me.

It would be nice to pick an activity under 'other' - pick your activity, pick time, I assume Allsport can put the weight in. At the end of it all you get an entry on the calendar similar to the gps functions...minus maps.

The best example that i can think of is a way to use something like this chart to input information that gets logged into the Trimble webpage: http://www.nutribase.com/exercala.htm

Thanks

I am requesting the following feature.

The animation feature shows the speeds at the parts of the trip. I can play it and watch exactly how fast I was going at various parts of the trail. One of your competing products offers it.

got an idea for a good one: a button to upload all trips not yet uploaded. and maybe move the upload button farther from the delete button?

Or, even better, an add-on, a power tools program that would allow uploading the 'missing' trips, and downloading maps for trips that are not already downloaded, so you know that you have them before you leave. (it could even tell you how many tiles are already d/l for a trip, like 4 out of 7 or 4/7 or even 50% (4/8, I just didn't want to get teh decimal for 4/7ths at the moment) etc.

Maybe even a tool that can look at the images taken from the main app, and then let you insert them into new trips automatically. IE, if I take a ride and stop and take a pic of a bridge that looks neat, then I ride past it a few weeks later, it could add that pic to the trip for me before uploading it. (pics should be able to be tagged y/n for including automatically though)

(I'd pay 5 bucks for that, then again, I used to pay that each month, before getting the android version, before it got discounted)

Those are nice features sathor. I think we can probably add one or two of those features.

Here is another question for you: should AllSport automatically upload all trips to the TrimbleOutdoors.com cloud? (Not SHARE all trips, but UPLOAD all trips?)

It seems like it would be helpful so that you don't have to worry if your phone gets wet or something right?

I turn all data features off before my rides, so it wouldn't help, but perhaps have it copy the trips to the SD card?

Interesting... Well it could just try the next time you login in network... it would do that today if you selected "Upload" when you were done, if you had network disabled.

...That is: it would try to upload the next time you logged in, or pressed the sync button on the My Trips Screen.

i'll have to try that, i often just tell it to skip, and then do them 1 by 1 to make sure they all made it to the website.

Been using Trimble Outdoors for 2.5 years now, currently using AllSportGPS for running, hiking and lots of biking. One feature I would really like to see is the integration of some of the Bluetooth heartrate and cadence monitors now appearing on the market. I would love to be able to see my H/R and cadence on my handlebar mounted android phone. Keep the new featuers coming guys!!

Sorry could not delete the seperate thread..oops...

I really like your software, here are some ideas that I could use, or maybe do not understand how to view it.

1. Please move the "discard" button to the right of the cancel...
* After riding for 20 or so miles in 90+ degree heat here in Tampa,FL.. more than once I have lost my ride since accidently hitting the "discard" recording. Large fingers I am soaked head to toe and all I want to do is carefully hit the save button. stress.....

2. Maybe it is my lack of knowledge, but I want to look at my previous months, and a total on the phone.
* I am always showing off your software to other riders, but can only see the current month. Is there a way to see all stat's on the phone.
* I found it on the website. On the phone, be able to pick month or date range. The stat's are cool, and really show off your software. In fact people like that more than the GPS mapping.

3. Another thread "manual entry" asked this;
* edit the miles and maybe time.

Thx,
Tom

@CodeChaser:
1. Good call... we'll look into that, and also adding a confirmation dialog.
2. You're not missing it, that one is sitting in the feature backlog right now, it should make its way into the app in the not-to-distant future.
3. Edit them on the phone? Interesting idea. That one isn't on the list yet. You can edit them once they are on the web, but not from the phone... I certainly see why you would want that one, but I'm not sure how soon we'll have it. (I did however add it to the list)

OK I have another feature for the website that would be nice. It would be cool if you could sort your trips by type. I've been biking a lot lately but sometimes i just want to see a list of all my running trips.

I'd like if they could be edited (with calories fixed) online, for those times I forget to turn it off, like if I am walking and then my wife gives me a ride, etc.

Then again, I guess, I could edit it, tell it not to count it, and use other trips to estimate, which I had thought of that last week after forgetting to turn it off after walking around a community garage sale.

Bob,

I would like to add another "vote" for the website updates the phone, like was mentioned in the forum may 11th. This may be simpler than adding an edit feature to the phone version(s). Or just simple provide a way to clear the cache so that it refreshes from the website on its own.

thx...
tom
