One more vote for the ability to specify custom activities... in-line skating and canoeing are two I've wished I had.

Also it would be nice to be able to specify on the phone whether a trip should be shared. Currently it's all private or all shared.

Thanks,
Martin

Another map feature request from an AllSport GPS on Android user
"Works great, but it would be awesome if there would be an ability for saving map data" - J
Thanks for the feedback!

Another feature I'd like to see is the ability to zoom on a current route. As it is, the more expansive your route gets, the harder it is to see where exactly you're at. I a couple weeks ago I was running at night and part of the trail I was on had closely spaced switchbacks. I ended up getting turned around a bit and the paths were getting jumbled together. If I could have zoomed in, it would have been easier to follow the correct path back to my start point.

Phone alerts such as calendar reminders and text messages should not interrupt the program. I have to restart the application and continue my session any time I get a meeting notice.
Also, it would be nice to see mile markers displayed on the map.

Travis,

I think that one is just because you are using IPhone. I believe that's a limitation of the IPhone :-(

I'll verify with the guys working on IPhone, but I'm 99% sure there is nothing we can do in the current IPhone O.S.

An option to disable the "rest detect" in a future 3.0.xx build would be awesome. I don't like to stop when I run and seldom do. Maybe for a train and I usually just turn around and run away. So when ever "rest detect" kicks in it's for a loss in GPS maybe I was taking a picture while running? Possibly running slow or turning around? Who knows? But it should affect my minutes per mile not assume I took a break and stopped for coffee.

If I remember correctly, 2.0 had the ability to disable "rest detect" and also to upload as public or private from AllSport was also in 2.0.

Other than my resting pet peeve, 3.0 has been rock solid with only one glitch this year and one last year that put me in Africa. Out of about 170 trips I'd say AllSport's spot on! And the last glitch was a run or two ago and it's most likely my fault. I hit start instantly, breaking my routine of waiting a few seconds after the initial "Start Trip" screen to acquire more satellites. The GPS signal strength meter in the right hand corner never lies, but a count would also be nice. e.g. Like in BlackBerry Maps?

Okay, that's my wish list for AllSport.

Kind regards,
Chris

Nice suggestions Chris,

We'll tentatively plan to get the option to disable rest detection into the next release.

When you talk about a count, do you mean a count of satellites being used?

Thanks,
Bob

It's not necessary, but it would be cool to see exactly how many satellites right next to that green graph bar. Say Bob, did you get my email? I had to get a new Tour and need my new pin # added. My darn bluetooth failed out of the blue on me! (no pun intended).

Thanks again,
Chris

Per my twitter exchange with @AllsportGPS:

(FYI my use & context are road bicycling) Specific to the iPhone app, I'd go along with most of the items in the sticky list. I would most like to see geotagged photos and notes (tricky turns, scenic views, nasty digs, etc), with indicators on the map after upload, and would like to get calls without killing the app - hopefully after OS 4.0?

Regarding #17 (display issues): the screen design presents secondary data in low-contrast making it hard to read at a glance. A lot of pixels are occupied with boxes and tints that could be otherwise used to make the display easy to comprehend while cycling.

My comments about social aspect are primarily focused on the web site. Not sure this is the right forum to get into detail about that - I have more to say on that topic.

Andy,

On the display issue: you find that the orange is a lot better than the black on white? If so, do you think it's because it's bigger, or because of the colors. Technically speaking you can't get much more contrast than white on black, but in reality sometimes the way the sun hits the screen can make other color combinations better.

On your social feedback, please do start a thread on the website forum for your social thoughts. We actually have a long list of features to improve the community experience over the next year, and I'd love to hear your thoughts to help us prioritize that list, or add anything we're forgetting.

And I'm thrilled to hear that you made it to the forums from Twitter. Twitter is a great place to chat, but being on the forums helps our staff track this stuff better.

Thanks!
Bob

Hi Bob:

Thanks for the follow-up. I'll try to clarify my comment about readability & contrast.

The use case:
I'm riding and want to check the data. There might be traffic alongside me, but I'm now one-handed, going 15-18 mph and I reach back and fish my phone out of my jersey pocket and grab a quick look - maybe a half a second - to look at the screen. As I see them, the secondary data (Total time, rest time, speed, elevation, etc.) are all white numerals with a slight drop shadow on a gradient of less than 40% black. See http://portal.trimbleoutdoors.com/portals/0/images/product/as/iphone/rest-detection-big.png.

IMHO it's not a matter of font size (I'm 53 and wear bifocals so I'm aware of when that's an issue).
I'd redesign this screen to make the data and labels more prominent than the boxes, etc. I'm less concerned about specific color choices than being able to perceive the data at a glance.

Just had one more feature thought - I'd like to configure which data element is the dominant one in this display, or have an on-screen toggle.

When I have some time I'll drop in the website forum and comment on social aspects.

Cheers,
Andy

Andy,

You can configure that! just touch the item in any field and you can change it.

Also, flip your phone sideways when recording. In the landscape position, it will show you a Huge high contrast mode that will show the text as big as it can be shown. If you have trouble keeping the phone in this mode, there is a lock on the screen that you can press to lock it in landscape mode.

Let me know if that works for you, and in the mean time, I'll put your feedback on the contrast of the small items on the list of items to consider for a future release.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well, that's pretty handy! Was that documented somewhere? And can I set the dashboard view to be my default view?

Wow, that sounds great! Can we get that on the BB Storm?

WPWoodJr: the short answer is: not in the short term :-)

But I'm going to add that one to the list for consideration down the road. We have a few differences from platform to platform, and we are going to continue to try to make them all support the same basic features, but we won't be able to keep them exactly the same.

Thanks for the question.

On the blackberry, if you have 'follow me' turned on in map mode, the screen updates every few seconds to make sure it keeps your position in the centre of the screen. This means the phone spends all it';s time loading updates to the map. Maybe an option to follow you but only update the map when you fall off the edge of the screen?

An option to place marker points on your trip so if you see something interesting/a new path you can mark it on the phone and then when you upload to a full map you could refer back to your recorded point and see where you were.

Jablad,

What you need it tiled maps... that way we only need to download new maps instead of re-downloading the same area.

Also, zooming out causes this to happen less frequently.

Good news: we are going to release tiled maps in the next version, which is supposed to happen in the next few days here. It takes the channels a few days/weeks to release our updates once we submit them though.

I'll keep you posted as we get the builds loaded into app world and others.

IPhone features:

All good features, but I miss the "text to speech" feature. Currently, while I'm running or biking, I have to look at the phone to see my pace or distance. Normally not really a problem, but whenever the sun is out it is hard to see. I would also love the integration with the Nike+ device the iPhone is capable of using. Not sure if that would be possible due to copyright restrictions from Nike?
I miss the option to select a playlist from the app. I have seen other apps that use the iPod interface from within the original app, therefore creating the ability to use all the ipod features.
And last but not least: integration with ANT+ devices.
Just a question: would it be possible to set the level of GPS usage, and therefore maximizing the battery life on the iPhone?

So:
- Text to speech of the main display (customizable)
- Integration with Nike+ device
- Use of the original iPod interface
- Integration with ANT+ devices

I don't know what I would call it but how about "Live Streaming"??? I think it would be neat if you could allow certain people to watch you as your on a trip especially when in a longer race so friends and family could just go to the web and see where you are on your trip.

I did post this in another place but this is the place it should be.

Live tracking is cool, especially for distance races, and maybe in case you get hurt on longer training runs.

I love the idea, but it's a pretty big one, I'll make sure it's on the list.

This would be a great addition. I currently do this now but I have to use a seperate app. I use it for safety and also so people can track me during charity events like my 2 day ride to Seattle. Every minute it updates my location and speed on a map. Having it in 1 place would be much better and having the ability to toggle it on and off as needed would be ideal.

I would just love to have cached maps on my Pantech Link, if it fails to grab a tile, it pops up an error message that blocks the display, and turns off the map overlays, and that isn't the easiest thing to turn back on while riding a bike. 95% of my rides are in the same 2x3 mile patch, and my phone has plenty of memory.

it would be nice to upload images and inset coords for them, and then have the system suggest some of my pics that would be on or near the route I am on. IE, I could upload pics once, and have them appear on a few different routes which have common segments.

sathor: you can upload images with lat/lon today using the map editor.

As for suggested images, or showing images from one trip on another, we have been thinking about something like that, but we are still brain storming on how that would really work... Great ideas though.

I just want the running icon back for AllSport, because I don't even own a bike. There's got to be a way to at least chose between icons, oh well if that's all that's on my wish list. It's not really that big of a deal, as I've had the bike icon since version 3 came out. But here's to hoping it's squeezed back in someday.

Or just release a special edition build with the runner icon instead of the bike. And I'm sure that us runners will grab it up in a hurry!

Something that I would like don't know about others but a Track Up feature on your map page in lieu of North Up would be nice. I have it on my Garmin GPS and love it. For me directions are much easier.

or auto start, sometimes it takes about 3 minutes to get a signal, and I hate to wait and push the button, and then once uploaded be able to add a point or two and have it update by extrapolation. (maybe let it start keeping time data when you start and use that in the figures.)
