Charles Kuralt called the Beartooth Highway "the most beautiful drive in America."  Imagine what he would have thought of it from the seat of a bicycle!

This is a very ambitious route-climbing up to almost 11,000 feet above sea level.  Then turning around and doing it all over again.

The road is generally open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day-depending on conditions.   Inquire locally regarding road conditions while planning this ride.  Traffic is usually fairly light.  Weather can be a factor-be prepared for anything.

The only controls are at each end of the route in Red Lodge and Cooke City.  There's absolutely no opportunity for shortcuts in between.

Both ends of the route are in Montana.  The plateau is in Wyoming.
