Tarzan's signature yell once echoed along the crystalline Silver River less than a mile from this part of the Florida Trail, which leads through a dense, dark floodplain forest beneath a canopy of palm fronds and live oaks. Between 1932 and 1942, Johnny Weissmuller swung from the trees for movie cameras in this lush riverine habitat. But you don't even have to get your feet wet on this 5.6-mile out-and-back, which is slightly elevated on a gravel bern. Head south from the Marshall Swamp trailhead. Detour onto the west half of a loop, where a spur leads to a frog-filled pond, then rejoin the main trail. Marvel at the towering cabbage palms, and the colonies of resurrection ferns, lichens, and mosses that blanket the trees. A picnic table near the end of the swamp is your turnaround; walk the other half of the loop on your return.
