I solo backpack in MNF when i want to get away from everyone and this trail didn't disappoint. I combined this trail with the OHV trails and dirt roads in the area to create a loop that took me 3 day to complete. Camping is free almost everywhere (only backcountry fire permit required http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/mendocino/passespermits/campfire/ ) and there are great views of mountains, lakes, and meadows around every corner. It's hard to believe that such a beautiful place could be so close to civilization and yet so far removed from people. Out here you can go literally days without seeing another person. MNF is 70 miles tall and 35 miles wide with no paved roads going through it, so it's easy to get away from it all here. With so many trails and so few people, it's the perfect weekend getaway. Please go check out Mendocino National Forest and let us all know about the little slice of this big NF. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/mendocino/recreation/trails/all/benmore/
