2008 Year-Round Route information
Starts at Tryon Creek State Park Visitor's Center.
Enjoy Tryon Creek State Park, then walk past mansions and down to Elk Rock Gardens (Bishop's Close) and back to Tryon Creek State Park.  Great lovely walk, mostly shaded.  Porta-john available at Riverdale School or at remodeling construction along the route.

The club is changing the route for 2009, but I'd recommend this one, especially in the spring.

Nontrivial Pursuit Sculpture

"Nontrivial Pursuit" is a sculpture by Julie Lindell, installed in Tryon Creek Park as part of the Natural Cycles art series, 2008-2009. This sculpture of a giant ball of knitting yarn had everything - including a kitchen sink embedded in it.

Elk Rock Gardens

Wonderful gardens on the former property of the Episcopal bishop' residence. Walk on gravel paths through the gardens.

Porta-John

Location: 45.438996, -122.656002
Porta-John at ballfield of Riverdale School. There are no restrooms at Elk Rock Gardens. There were other construction porta-johns along Iron Mountain Road and Edgecliff Drive.
