Benton MacKaye Section 3

Shares the same tread way as Duncan Ridge Section 2 up to near Rhodes Mountain. There are a few scattered overlooks of surrounding Ga mountains along the trail. Most of the section is a tree lined ridge following hike.

Section two makes a huge "question mark shaped" curve back to the west from Ga hwy 60 after crossing Little Skeenah Creek..  The first several miles are part of a long climb up to a split with the Duncan Ridge Section 2 trail near Rhodes Mountain.  Thereafter, the trail descends through hardwoods to Skeenah Gap Road.

Views are limited, but really nice at way point #5 and just below Rhodes Mountain.  Solitude is the name of the game.  I've been on this section several times and never seen any other hikers and very little signs of use.  The BMTA does keep the trail maintained well.

Most of the hike is either climbing or a tree covered ridge line hike.  Water is limited.  Avoid taking water from Little Skeenah Creek near Ga 60.  A chicken farm with runoff is just up stream.  Water can be found just north of Licklog Mtn - 3.5 miles from the start.
