Watch for black-tailed deer on this steep up-and-back 9-mile hike, which climbs through Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve to the top of 2,805-foot Black Mountain. TO TRAILHEAD: I-280 to El Monty/Moody Rd. exit. Head W on Moody Rd. Go straight through stoplight at Foothill College. Turn L at next stop sign, and L again onto Rhus Ridge Rd. Park .2 miles in lot on R.
