Every February, hordes of cyclists flock to the sun-drenched roads of Palm Springs to enjoy the warm weather and early-season riding promised by the Tour de Palm Springs. One of the most popular single-day cycling events in the country, the Tour de Palm Springs features five different routes for riders of varying skill and fitness levels. This ride follows the century route that loops through Palm Springs to the southern edge of Joshua Tree National Park before swinging back through suburbs like Coachella, La Quinta and Cathedral City.

From Palm Springs, begin climbing immediately as you head north on Indian Canyon Drive. By mile 16, at the intersection with Indian Avenue, you'll have already completed the bulk of the ride's climbing by ascending nearly 1,300 feet. Enjoy the long downhill on Indian Avenue as you head toward Dillon Avenue, which cuts to the southeast along the edge of Joshua Tree National Park. (This is the most exposed and remote stretches of the ride, so make sure your food and drink reserves are full.) You'll hit Coachella after completing the Dillon Avenue stretch, and will pedal through the suburbs for the remainder of your ride.
