After the hike.  Stop in at PJs Cafe and Pizzeria in Groveland for some great food and refreshments.

TO TRAILHEAD: Highway 120, Tioga Rd. E to Sunrise Trailhead on the south end of Tenaya Lake. Tioga Rd. closes in the fall and reopens sometime around Memorial Day depending upon snow conditions.

At Trailhead, Straight ahead on paved path. The only water near the trailhead would be Tenaya Lake.

R at Y. Head out on a well used shaded trail. Large granite boulders line sections of the trail. Spur: head left 400ft through the trees and checkout the picturesque Tenaya Lake.

Challenging ascent (and descent on the way back), climbing 1000 ft over the next mile on switchbacks of granite steps and cobblestones.

R at Y. The major climb is now over. Leave the Sunrise trail and follow trail sign to Clouds Rest. Lose some of that hard fought elevation as you descend 300 ft.

Cross Creek. This small creek appears to run year long and is a possible water source if needed. The trail from here climbs a bit among an evergreen forest.

R at 3-way. Trail gradually ascends for a bit then takes a moderate climb to the ridge. The first views of the back side of Clouds Rest can be seen to the west as you start gaining altitude. Much of the trail is a wide path and the growth between trees is sparse. See Wide Trail photo.

R at Trail Marker, head up the rocky trail and veer L onto narrow ridge that will lead you to the summit. After cresting the short rise, Cloud's Rest summit will be in view. Continue on the narrow trail 500ft. to the top!

Summit. Elevation 9926ft. Grand 360 degree views of Yosemite can be seen featureing Half Dome, North Dome, Sentinal Dome, El Capitan, Glacier Point, Cathedral Rocks, Pinnacles, Voglesang, Tenaya Lake, Olmstead Point, Fletcher Peak, Cathedral Peak, Unicorn Point, etc.
